Cultivation substrate for cardiac myocyte alignment
This is a substrate that easily aligns cultured cardiac muscle cells. It facilitates the fabrication of anisotropic cardiac muscle sheets.
By aligning cultured cardiomyocytes, a sheet can be constructed that reproduces anisotropic excitation propagation similar to cardiac tissue. Anisotropic cardiomyocyte sheets are electrically stable and have a low incidence of reentry. The incidence of reentry induced by drug action in anisotropic cardiomyocyte sheets shows a high correlation with clinical data. The quantification of "drug-induced arrhythmogenic effects," which was difficult with existing testing methods, becomes possible with anisotropic cardiomyocyte sheets.
